Food Review : The Cricketers Colchester, Essex

Being an Essex countryside girl, I am a huge fan of a good pub meal. There’s something very comforting about a traditional countryside pub and when you throw some good food into the mix, you can’t beat it.

I regularly eat out at pubs and one of my favourites is The Cricketers in Eight Ash Green, Colchester, Essex. The Cricketers is known locally for its delicious food and it wasn’t until recently that I visited for the first time. Since then, I’ve already been back because the food is so delicious.

On my first visit, I had the Tempura Chicken Strips with chilli sauce for starters. Sometimes, battered chicken can be greasy and I was worried that this would be the case. However, I was completely proven wrong. The chicken was not slimy or greasy at all and I couldn’t fault the strips at all. The only small thing I would have changed is swapping the dip for sweet chilli sauce instead of chilli sauce as it was very spicy!

I loved the Tempura Chicken Strips so much that on my second visit, I had them as part of my main dish.

For mains, I went for the steak…of course. The steak came with onion rings and thick cut chips. There are very few things that I love more than a pub chip. The chips were beautifully fluffy on the inside and perfectly crispy on the outside. I ordered the steak medium/well and although it was a little too well done it still tasted amazing and the meat was obviously of a high quality too.

The dessert menu looked amazing and I was gutted that I was too full to try a dessert but I will definitely be going back soon and saving room to try something.
