Last weekend, we were invited to review a new bar/restaurant that has launched in Southend, Revolution. The chain of bars all have a similar feel with good music, amazing cocktails and a cool atmosphere. I have been to a couple of Revolution bars in the past however only for a night out, and never for dinner, so I was excited at the thought of being able to try the menu.

We started with a welcome cocktail. I’ve always wanted to try a Pornstar Martini so this is what I went for and I was not disappointed. In fact, I think this could be a new contender for my favourite cocktail. The cocktail menu was huge so it wasn’t easy to decide what to try next. I went for the Quacktail which was amazing, I love a sweet cocktail so this was perfect for me. Unfortunately, the bar was short on bar staff so there was quite a long wait between each drink so we didn’t stay for a third cocktail. However, our waitress couldn’t have been more apologetic about this.

For starters, we had three small plates to share. We went for the garlic bread, nachos and fried halloumi. It was all amazing but the halloumi was on another level, it was perfect. Sometimes, fried halloumi can be a bit sickly however both myself and Liam agreed we could have eaten even more it was so good.

For mains, I went for steak with garlic butter and garlic fries…Can you tell I like garlic yet? The steak was delicious but the real star of the show was the garlic fries. I hate soggy fries and I expected these fries to be soggy as they were cooked in garlic but they were crispy which is just how I like my chips. I had to share these with Liam because as soon as I’d let him try one he just kept eating them, they were that good.

Liam ordered the meat beast pizza which included pulled chicken, pepperoni, bacon bits, garlic butter, roquito peppers, mozzarella, chilli sauce, crème fraîche, rocket. He said the pizza itself was amazing but very spicy so he didn’t manage to eat it all due to his mouth being on fire but that’s just his personal taste.

After our starters and mains, it was time for dessert. I had been looking forward to the brownie but unfortunately, it had nuts in but the team were very sweet and just did me some vanilla ice cream and the portion was extremely generous so I couldn’t finish it all. Liam had the brownie and said it was lovely so I was very very jealous.

Overall, the meal was amazing and we’ll definitely be returning. Thank you to Revolution for having us.

We’ve now been home owners for just over a week and in that time, we’ve learnt a lot. A week may not seem like a long time but it has certainly felt like it!

We’ve gone from living completely rent free with my parents and having to do pretty much nothing around the house straight into having to pay bills and do everything for ourselves. It’s been a shock to the system but I am loving owning my own home and having our own space that we can do whatever we like with.

Here are five things that I’ve learnt over the past week…

  • There is always something to do – Whether this be cook dinner, hang out the washing or clean the bathroom, there is always something that can be done. I never thought the day would come that I feel guilty if I’m sitting around watching Love Island whilst there’s dishes to put away!
  • Things don’t happen overnight – We moved in on the Friday and I expected to have a fully decorated lounge by the following Friday. Boy, was I wrong. I hadn’t even began to think about how long things like stripping wallpaper, plastering the walls and painting take. Admittedly, we are expecting to have the lounge completed by next Friday so two weeks is still very fast but I was being completely unrealistic before.
  • It’s not all fun and games – The novelty of washing up wears off, as does the novelty of doing everything for yourself. Even in the space of just over a week, we’ve both had to do some serious growing up.
  • Priorities change – Going out for dinner vs. Buying a pot of paint? That’s a dilemma I never thought I’d find myself facing yet here I am… surrounded by paint pots!
  • Having your own space is amazing – This is one novelty that has definitely not worn off. I love the fact that everything is our choice; what we have for dinner, how we decorate, when we wash up – everything!
