Worthwhile Kitchen Gadgets…
I was prompted to chose this topic because I thought to myself how many people out there received a gift wanted or unwanted gift that was a kitchen gadget, a lot I supposed!
Whether you asked for a waffle/bread/coffee/ice cream/pastry/doughnut maker here’s a list of five of the best kitchen gadgets, both practical and impractical.
1/ Plexi-glass cook book holder – now you may think this is a rather boring selection out of all the kitchen gadgets that are available and yes it may seem rather insignificant. I think it rightfully deserves it’s place in the top five gadgets for one reason, it really is useful. To me that earns the cookbook holder its full gadget status. By definition I think a gadget should be useful and save you either time, energy or both. How many times have you struggled to hold open a hardback cookbook while trying to sift flour or precariously crack eggs. Or how many times have you have to smear the pages with pastry hands and subsequently wiped out two pages as they will be forever stuck together. 2/ Colour coded chopping boards – again perhaps a less exciting choice but essential all the same. Food hygiene is important whether you are in a commercial or a domestic kitchen, nothing is worth risking food poisoning over. It is generally well know that you should cut raw meat on an entirely separate chopping board, fish on another and vegetables on another and never the three shall meet! Colour coded chopping boards help to take the hassle out of having three or four separate boards by storing them all in their own block and having them colour coded (red – meat etc…). Allowing the user to select the correct board upon a glance, further ensuring that no cross contamination will take place and helping all users in the household to use the right board.
3/ Egg perfect Colour Changing Egg Timer – this product has made it onto the list because it is a classic which every household would benefit from having. A boiled egg is one of life’s little pleasures add some soldiers and you’re ready to rock. Imagine the disappointment when you are sitting in earnest waiting for your perfect soft boiled egg and you get to it and it’s hard boiled, your toasty soldiers are now redundant! Never suffer from any egg disappointment again with this handy little gadget.
4/ Food Processor – now this is definitely and oldie but it’s a goodie. A food processor might just be one of the electrical gadgets that might just hold it’s position outside of the back of the cupboard. The reason for this is their excellent multi-uses for instance with a food processor your can, chop anything finely, grate cheese, vegetables, make pesto, make cakes, meringues, pastry, marinades, dressings, breadcrumbs or soup and many more. This is why the food processor makes it onto the list on the merit of it’s veritable multitude of uses.
5/ The juicer – this made it onto the list because of the part it is playing in the improvement of the health of the nation. Even if you detest the sight of fruit and vegetables you can blitz them up, mix them in with nice things and drink them. Ensuring you consumer your recommended five a day but are excused from the potential distress of having to eat a banana if you are a fruit and veg hater. Juicers are a good gadget because they are time saving they encourage users to try a wide variety of foods and they leave very little waste behind, extracting every last drop of juice.
